The other day I had the most unique and profound experience: the visit of Jacob’s Reward Farm, which happened to be, to my happy surprise, my neighbor!! I have always believed: if you open your eyes and mind wide/big enough, you will find miracles more often, and those miracles will be  the profound positive transformation of the path of your life.

“Come for a visit, and touch the farm.

Just minutes from Dallas, Plano, and Allen, Texas, Jacob’s Reward Farm is a sanctuary from the hectic pace of corporate and suburban life. Visit for a while and set your worries aside. Enjoy the fresh air, the open space, and the gentle creatures of the farm.

If you spin, knit, crochet or weave, or would like to, we offer not only quality wool and alpaca fiber, but a meaningful relationship with the people and animals who bring it to you. Through our fiber CSA and our pasture-fresh eggs, you can enjoy healthy farm life, even if you live in the city.”

Jacob’s Reward Farm host spinning/knitting get-together classes as well as informal workshops. My 7-year old will love their August Camp!!! Here is on line camp registration.

On June 14th, 2011, I had a privilege to be a part of the PAMOM evening and share my passion on creating non-toxic houses and healthier children.

Raising Healthy Kids Today (June 14th, 2011)

What do you use at home?

Fantastik, 409, Ajax, Comet, Windex, Tide, Cascade, Sun Light, Johnson and Johnson, Aveno, Colgate, Nature’s Source, and more

What’s now?

  • Baby care products: possible sources of infant phthalate exposure
  • 287 industrial chemicals found in a test of the umbilical cord blood of 10 newborns
  • Mercury contamination moves beyond fish
  • Bisphenol-A can build up in babies and infants
  • Carcinogen 1,4-dioxane found in leading ‘organic’ brand personal care products

Hazardous chemicals in the home are connected to your children’s health and future.

“..Guess how many chemicals have been restricted since TSCA was passed in 1976? Five. Yes, you read that right. Five…
..In a nutshell: Autism is America’s fastest growing developmental disability. An estimated 1.5 million children are currently affected by autism spectrum disorder in the United States. Autism rates have risen nearly 400% in 20 years, to the point that now one out of every 100 children—or one out of every 70 boys—is statistically destined for diagnosis..
.. the unregulated chemicals that infuse our children’s lives to the point that today babies are born pre-polluted with more than 200 chemicals in their blood, just from pre-natal exposure..
“We live, breathe and start our families in the presence of toxic chemical mixtures and constant low-level toxic exposures, in stark contrast to the way chemicals are tested for safety,” said Donna Ferullo, Director of Program Research at The Autism Society. “Lead, mercury, and other neurotoxic chemicals have a profound effect on the developing brain at levels that were once thought to be safe.”
Just to be clear: There is no clear data on why autism occurs. Most scientists agree that there are many factors—from genetic to environmental—which may increase risk for ASD. Hundreds of genes have been associated with autism, some of which are inherited and some of which are found in people with autism but not in their parents. Large numbers of environmental factors are being looked at as well. These include chemicals, infectious agents, and various health problems in the parents. Autism may result from a combination of risk factors.”

Is there a connection between the immune system and autism? Is there a connection between mercury and autism? Is there a connection between gut irritation and autism? Is there a connection between immunizations and autism?

EWG’s Bottled Water Research & Advocacy

Americans drink twice as much bottled water today as they did ten years ago. One would think that purity would be included at a price, that, at a typical cost of $3.79 per gallon, is 1,900 times the cost of public tap water. But EWG’s ground-breaking studies have documented how, when it comes to bottled water, consumers don’t know what they are getting.

To the contrary, our tests strongly indicate that the purity of bottled water cannot be trusted. Given the industry’s refusal to make available data to support their claims of superiority, consumer confidence in the purity of bottled water is simply not justified.

Is your bottled water worth it? EWG looks under the labels.

Until the federal Food and Drug Administration cracks down on water bottlers, use EWG’s What’s in My Bottled Water guide to find brands with high scores for disclosing full water source, treatment and quality and that use advanced treatment methods to remove a broad range of pollutants.

Bottled Water Quality Investigation: 10 Major Brands, 38 Pollutants

The bottled water industry promotes an image of purity, but EWG’s comprehensive testing reveals a surprising array of chemical contaminants in every bottled water brand analyzed, including two brands that exceeded legal limits.

Featured partners: Corporate Accountability International, Environmental Working Group

house CLEAN WELL FOR A QUICK SALE!If you want the highest price for your house in the shortest amount of time, there are numerous things you should do before putting it on the market.  Here are the top three:

1.       De-clutter – Clutter makes a house look crowded and small.  Remove excess knick-knacks and furniture so the rooms feel open and spacious.

2.       Clean – Invest in a professional cleaning that includes baseboards, window sills, and ceiling fans.  Buyers pay attention to the details and love to see fresh vacuum tracks on the carpet.  Clean scents are important, but you don’t want a heavy artificial odor like some Plug-in products have.  I recommend using environmentally safe, non-toxic products that clean well and leave a fresh scent.

3.       Groom the Lawn – Attractive curb appeal is an absolute must.  I have pulled up to a house with buyers who wouldn’t even go inside because the lawn was in such bad shape.  The lawn is the first impression buyers have of your house.  If the lawn is not well-maintained, their perception is that the house has not been well-maintained either.

Taking care of these three items will get you off to a good start as you prepare to put your house on the market.  At that point, you need to get it “show ready” to have the biggest impact on potential buyers.

Achieving SUSTAINABILITY

Jude & Jack Peskuski,
Shaklee top top achievers

In the last year the Earth has taken major hits, i.e., the gulf oil spill, and the ongoing nuclear  disaster in Japan.   Whole sections of the environment are assaulted, giving most of us pause to focus on the cost to our planet.

Unfortunately, big disasters put the responsibility on someone else.  Never mind the fact that we use the oil, or the electricity, and expect it will be available whenever we want it.  But even that misses a bigger point.

The biggest source of all pollution is still collective consumer waste, not big industries.   Look around you – all the millions of homes, all the apartment complexes, condos, high-rise residence buildings - tons of chemical waste, tons of medicines eliminated, tons of pesticides, tons of insecticides, tons of garbage, etc.  The collective toxic waste is many times the gulf oil spill - and it happens every year!

Why not make this year your year to take a stand for your household.  You will still do your laundry, wash your dishes and clean your home, but do it without toxic chemicals.

Shaklee ‘Get Clean’ products are better for your health, better for your home, better for the environment, out-perform the leading brands and are more economical!

Why isn’t everyone using them?

We did not inherit the Earth from our parents,… we borrow it from our children’s children
